About Kat & David

Kat is an entrepreneur and licensed North Carolina Real Estate Broker. After a hands on education in Parisian bakeries, she founded the community-centered cafe, Mottley Kitchen in Mott Haven, Bronx. She successfully grew the multi-faceted business from start to sale with radical hospitality. She contributes much of its traction to a community minded design that she and David imagined and built with a complete gut renovation of the entire 2,000 square foot space including it’s workhorse commercial kitchen, bakery counter, cafe space and rooftop dining. The space was vacant for the entire decade prior.

David is a licensed North Carolina General Contractor. Previously a graphic designer and art director for NYC based advertising firms, he’s now following his love for hands-on building. He is a visionary for seeing the most potential in overlooked and underserved places and redesigning them with beautiful form and new functionality. David loves to redesign spaces on paper and then builds those designs by hand for a rare Design & Build capability. He loves being immersed in nature and using his head heart and hands to create more beauty in the world. He believes a day with warm chocolate chip cookies are the best of days.

After 13 years in New York, Kat and David have returned to North Carolina and reside in Kat’s hometown - Raleigh. They live with their two beautiful daughters and beloved bernedoodle, Pepper in Southeast Raleigh - they love walking to all Downtown Raleigh has to offer and renovating homes a stone’s throw away from their Alma Mater NCSU.
